Fault Analysis and Solution of Pipe Repair Coupling in Practical Use
2026-09-15 03:44:03
This paper summarizes common faults of repair couplings in practical application, analyzes fault causes, and puts forward targeted troubleshooting and solution measures.
Article Details:In long-term pipeline maintenance engineering, pipe repair couplings may have common faults such as micro-leakage,coupling sliding, gasket aging and loose connection. Most faults are caused by improper selection,non-standard installation and improper daily maintenance rather than product quality problems.Summarizing fault causes and solutions can effectively improve the success rate and stability of pipeline repair.
Micro-leakage is the most common fault of repair couplings, mainly caused by incomplete pipe pretreatment and uneven bolt fastening.Residual sediment and rust on the pipe wall lead to poor fitting between gasket and pipe wall, forming tiny leakage gaps.One-sided excessive bolt fastening causes local gasket compression insufficient, resulting in pressure leakage. The solution is to thoroughly clean the pipe wall before installation, and adopt symmetrical graded fastening to ensure uniform gasket compression.
Coupling sliding and offset faults mostly occur in vibration-intensive pipeline sections.Long-term fluid vibration and pipeline impact cause unfastened bolts to loosen gradually, leading to coupling displacement and sealing failure. For such faults,anti-loosening gaskets and double nuts can be added during installation to enhance fastening stability.Regular bolt torque inspection and calibration are required for vibrating pipeline sections to prevent sliding displacement.
Early aging and failure of sealing gaskets are usually caused by mismatched material selection.Ordinary EPDM gaskets used in oil and high-temperature environments will age and fail rapidly. The solution is to select matching sealing materials according to pipeline medium and temperature:nitrile rubber for oil media, fluorine rubber for high-temperature and corrosive environments, and modified anti-aging rubber for outdoor buried pipelines.
Local pipe body deformation and secondary damage are caused by excessive bolt torque.Over-tightening will squeeze the pipe body to deform, resulting in new cracks and leakage.Standard torque values should be strictly followed during construction, and pressure test inspection should be completed after installation.Timely troubleshooting and standardized rectification can effectively eliminate hidden dangers and ensure the reliable operation of repair couplings.
