Material Selection and Pressure Resistance of Flange Adapter

Material selection directly affects the pressure resistance and service life of flange adapters.Ductile iron flange adapters are widely used for water supply and fire pipelines with moderate pressure,featuring good castability,mechanical toughness and cost advantages.Carbon steel flange adapters are suitable for higher pressure industrial pipelines.Stainless steel options are adopted in corrosive environments such as coastal salt fog,chemical wastewater and acid containing medium.
The elastomer gasket is critical for sealing.EPDM rubber fits water medium and normal temperature environments,while NBR rubber is selected for oil containing fluid.Fluororubber can be used for high temperature and corrosive medium scenarios.Material compatibility evaluation must be conducted to prevent swelling,hardening or chemical degradation of gaskets when contacting transported medium.
The pressure class of flange adapter must match the whole pipeline system.Each pressure rating corresponds to defined test pressure and working temperature range.Temperature rise will reduce the allowable working pressure of flange assemblies.Surface anti corrosion treatment such as epoxy coating or galvanization can protect metal substrate from atmospheric and water corrosion.Coating damage during handling and installation will create corrosion starting points.
Regular inspection should focus on flange face corrosion,gasket extrusion and bolt corrosion.When pitting corrosion appears on flange sealing surface,the fitting should be replaced to avoid medium leakage.Correct material matching according to medium,pressure and environment ensures the flange adapter maintains stable sealing performance in long term operation.
