Installation Steps and Torque Control of Flange Adapter

Standard installation operation is essential for reliable sealing of flange adapter connections.The first step is pipeline preparation.Operators cut pipe ends smoothly and remove sharp burrs,oxide scale and surface coating residues.Irregular pipe ends will lead to uneven compression on sealing gaskets and increase leakage risk.Then check the nominal diameter,pressure class and flange standard of the adapter to match the mating valve or equipment flange.

The flange adapter and mating flange need to be well aligned.Parallel offset and angular misalignment shall be limited within allowable tolerance.Excessive misalignment will generate extra bending stress and damage the gasket.Place the sealing gasket between two flange faces and keep it concentric without offset.Then assemble all bolts and tighten them in diagonal cross sequence.

Torque control is critical.Bolts cannot be tightened randomly one by one.Uniform preload ensures consistent gasket compression all around the flange face.Over torque may crush the gasket or deform flange casting,while insufficient torque causes inadequate sealing pressure and leakage.After all bolts reach target torque,visual inspection and hydrostatic pressure test are required.

In later maintenance,inspectors recheck bolt torque periodically,especially for pipelines with frequent pressure fluctuation and vibration.Bolt loosening caused by vibration is a common failure mode.Damaged gaskets or corroded flange faces need timely replacement.Standardized installation and regular inspection keep flange adapter joints leak free during pipeline operation.
